Mr. Quek Boon Hui

Mr Quek Boon Hui has been a conductor for the past two and a half decades. His versatility has enabled him to switch effortlessly between teaching young children in primary schools and adults in post secondary institutions.
Over the years, Mr Quek has led many school bands to awards at national competitions. He was the only conductor who has been awarded two Gold (with Honours) awards in the 2010 and 2012 Primary Schools Central Judging of concert Bands. He also led schools to titles of the highest prestige at every Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Bands since its inception in 2000, i.e. Best Band of the Year: Bendemeer Primary School (2000) and Maha Bodhi School (2002, 2004).
Mr. Quek has been at the helm of major projects like a mass display of six primary school bands during the National Day Parade in 1993. Two of his schools (Bendemeer Primary School and Maha Bodhi School) were invited to perform as the Central Parade Band for the 2010 SYF Opening Ceremony at Indoor Stadium. He has also been instrumental in setting up the community bands of Kim Seng and Moulmein Community Centres.
He was appointed the conductor of the Maha Bodhi School Concert Band in 1996. Under his professional and dedicated guidance, the band has made improvements in leaps and bounds. After its reform, MBS Concert Band was awarded her first Gold Medal in the 1998 SYF Central Judging for Primary School Bands. Over the past decade, it has also been conferred the “Primary School Band of the Year” title twice. Mr. Quek is also currently the Resident Conductor of Bendemeer Primary School Band.
Having being appointed Conductor of Bendemeer Primary School Concert Band and Maha Bodhi School Symphonic Band since 1984 and 1996 respectively, both bands have made tremendous improvements and achieved outstanding awards under his professional and dedicated guidance. Some achievements include Maha Bodhi School being awarded Gold at the 17th Annual Australian International Music Festival in Sydney in 2006 and Bendemeer Primary School being awarded Gold at the 4th Winter Band Festival in Hong Kong this year.
Mr. Quek is currently the conductor of the Music Talent Development Centre ( Primary ). It is a programme which had been set up in 2010, by then MOE – CCAB. It provides developmental opportunities for musically talented students to harness their full potential. This is an appointment that Mr. Quek has held since its establishment in 2010.
