Maha Bodhi School Symphonic Band
Formed in 1996, the Maha Bodhi School Band started out with humble numbers. Over the years, MBS Band developed into an established one with a wide array of styles and musicality. Complemented by the bassoon, double bass and oboe sections, MBS band is now fully established as a symphonic band. Every member of the band undergoes a formal music education. They attend practices twice weekly as early as in Primary One and perform regularly at functions both in school and for the public. With a strong foundation in music and a wide experience in performing, many of the members develop a passion in music and continue to pursue the art after graduating.
Through the years, the symphonic band has achieved 8 consecutive Gold Awards at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Primary School Bands from 1998 to 2012. It has obtained the highest accolade at every biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Primary School bands since the band first participated in 1998. The band is also awarded best band of the year on 2002 and 2004 in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Primary School bands, which was sponsored by SHELL organisation. It also performs regularly at events held in conjunction with the SYF like the opening ceremony in 2010, the closing ceremony in 2008, as well as the presentations for bands in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. The band has also won a Gold Award at the 17th Australian International Music Festival in Sydney, Australia.
